You can enjoy Sapa at any time of year, but visitors should bear in mind that the months of January and February can get very cold, sometimes even seeing snowfall. For more information about weather, please refer to our section on weather in Sapa.
The months of April and May are a good choice, as the climate is more forgiving, and the rice paddies turn a vibrant bright green during these months. Similarly, September is a good choice as the nearing harvest means the terraces turn a deep golden colour.

There are many different activities you can partake in. The highlight for many is trekking around the gorgeous landscapes and having cultural experiences in the villages they visit. Refer to our sections on activities and highlights in Sapa for more details.

When visiting Sapa you have two main categories of accommodation. In Sapa Town itself there are hostels and hotels catering to travellers on any kind of budget, from low-price hostels with dorms to 5 star hotels catering to luxury travellers.
The second category, and the one we think is far more interesting, is the array of homestays located down in the valley. Staying with a local family and interacting with them is the perfect way to experience the culture of the area, and makes for great starting points for treks.
 

Absolutely! While Sapa town is certainly more developed than the old days, the surrounding landscapes and villages are still wonderfully authentic and off the beaten track. With the extreme variety in trekking routes, it’s easy to find somewhere to trek far away from the tourist crowds, even in peak season.
